Official start of Aro's construction phase marked with turning of the soil ceremony.
On Tuesday 9 June 2021, The Wellington Company in partnership with Taranaki Whānui celebrated the first turning of the soil for Aro. This is a special milestone marks the start of the construction phase.
Please see photos below, and an explanation of the beautiful karakia performed.
Te Huringa a nuku:
“The turning of the soil is the first part of any long journey. It is appropriate in terms of the partnership between Taranaki Whanui, The Wellington Company and for many of those that have been working behind the scenes to come together (to acknowledge this milestone). The karakia is about the establishment of the start of building the homes, about establishing the foundations and the development taking form. Like that of a traditional meeting house, Te Koruru (the head), Te Poutokomana Wa (the heart) and Te Tahuhu ( the backbone) – these are the start of the symbolism of building a whare and every home here” - Kura Moeahu
Now that the official construction phase has kicked off, we look forward to keeping you updated via regular construction updates, which will be posted here.
